Gender is a deeply ingrained and highly valued concept in our culture. Despite that, it is often one that is taken for granted. We rarely think critically about what gender is, what it means, or how it functions in our day to day and personal lives. For too long, the idea that gender and sex go together, that a vagina equals woman and a penis equals man, has been the predominant understanding of gender. Transcend seeks to establish and reinforce the notion that gender identity and biological sex do not have any concrete correlation. The concepts explored are simplistic and digestible, aimed for an audience with little or no previous knowledge of the topic.
