What most people do not know is that receipts are usually not, in fact, recyclable. The typical receipt is a “thermal receipt” which is coated with BPA or BPS. Yes, the same chemical that was banned in plastic bottles due to its health risks! BPA, or BPS, sits on the surface of receipts and comes off easily, within a mere five seconds of contact with skin. Receipts contain much more BPA/BPS than we used to be worried about finding in bottles, too. Rule Out Receipts sheds light on this and asks businesses to switch to email receipts.
